In One UI 8, Samsung introduced an adaptive lock screen clock that automatically adjusts its size, height, and layout based on the subject in the wallpaper. However, the feature was previously limited to wallpapers featuring people or animals.
With One UI 8.5, Samsung appears to be taking this customization to the next level. According to a recent video shared by prolific leaker Ice Universe, the updated clock will now be able to recognize and adapt to any object in the wallpaper — not just humans or animals.
Additionally, the clock will automatically adjust its background color in context with the wallpaper, creating a harmonious, glass-like aesthetic that blends beautifully with the overall design. This upgrade promises a fresh, elegant lock screen experience that feels more dynamic and visually in tune with your wallpaper.
You can watch the side-by-side comparison video of the One UI 8 and One UI 8.5 lock screen clocks below.
If you’re already on One UI 8 and want to try the current adaptive clock feature, long-press on the lock screen’s empty area to enter Edit mode. Then tap the clock, open the Font and color tab, and select the second option. As you move the clock around, it will automatically reshape based on the subject in your wallpaper.

You may have to wait until late November to experience the new One UI 8.5 clock, as the beta rollout of Samsung’s next major software update is rumored to begin around that time — starting with the Galaxy S25 series.
