Helio G80 vs Snapdragon 675 vs 712

MediaTek has announced its latest gaming processor in its G series lineup, the Helio G80. It is a slightly powerful version of the MediaTek Helio G70 Soc which was announced this year. The MediaTek Helio G80 Soc comes with an Octa-core that leverages the in-house HyperEngine technology to offer a better gaming output and connectivity experience.

Since most of the smartphone whether its a budget, mid-range or flagship range, they are mostly dominated by Qualcomm’s chipset. And it’s good to have so many options available in the market to choose from. Also, you will likely find this chipset on budget smartphones.

But there are already a few processors that will give direct competition to Helio G80, namely Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 and 712. So is the new MediaTek Helio G80 is powerful than its competitors? Here’s the head-to-head spec comparison between MediaTek Helio G80 vs Snapdragon 675 vs 712.

Starting with the manufacturing process, MediaTek Helio G80 comes with 12 nm node while Snapdragon 675 comes with 11 nm design and Snapdragon 712 with 10 nm. So in terms of power efficiency, SDM 712 takes the lead here.

Coming to Cores, all the three chipsets have a dual cluster (eight cores divided into two parts). Where Helio G80 has four Cortex-A75 @ 2GHz for the heavy tasks and four Cortex-A55 @ 1.7GHz for the lighter tasks. Whereas, Snapdragon 675 Soc features two Kryo 460 based on Cortex-A76 clocked at 2.0 GHz and six Kryo 460 based on Cortex-A55 tickling at 1.8 GHz. On the other hand, Snapdragon 712 Soc comes with two Kryo 360 based on Cortex-A75 clocked at 2.3 GHz and six Kryo 360 based on Cortex-A55 tickling at 1.7 GHz. Well, there is no doubt that Snapdragon 675 outperforms all of them since Cortex-A76 is more powerful than Cortex-A75.


The MediaTek Helio G80 uses the new generation of GPU Arm Mali-G52 2EEMC2. It has Max GPU Frequency of 820MHz and comes with HyperEngine Game Technology. Whereas Snapdragon 675 and 712 uses Adreno 612 GPU and Andreno 616 GPU respectively. Although Snapdragon 675 has a more powerful CPU, but when it comes to GPU, Snapdragon 712 is the king here.


The most important part of this section is the ISP (Image Signal Processor). It defines how capable and fast the processor is to capture and process the image and video. Helio G80 support up to 48 MP single camera or 16 MP + 16 MP Dual Camera. Whereas both Snapdragon 675 and 712 uses spectra 250 ISP which can have up to 192 MP (no MFNR & ZSL) and up to 48 MP (no ZSL). Whereas with dual camera setup, it can support up to 16 MP dual-cameras. Here both Snapdragon 675 and 712 ISP are much higher than Helio G80.

Coming to video part, both Snapdragon 712 and 675 can record video up to 4K UHD @ 30fps while Helio G80 can only record video up to 2K @ 30 fps.

Memory and Display

All these processors support LPDDR4x but you will find a slight difference in terms of RAM frequency. The MediaTek Helio G70 has Max Memory Frequency of 1800MHz while both Snapdragon 712 and 675 has Max Memory Frequency of 1866 MHz. Furthermore, Helio G80 only supports eMMC 5.1 storage type while both Snapdragon 712 and 675 support eMMC 5.1 and UFS 2.1 storage type.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

AI in smartphones has now become mandatory nowadays and thankfully almost all chipset today comes with AI processing unit. AI features of Helio G80 are CorePilot, NeuroPilot, Tiny Sensor Hub and HyperEngine Game Technology. On the other hand, both Snapdragon 712 and 675 Soc comes with Qualcomm Hexagon 685 DSP.

Since there are no devices yet which comes with Helio G80 processor so there are no AnTuTu and Geekbench scores available.

Both Snapdragon 675 and 712 have a score of 1,74,402 and 1,81,025 respectively which makes Snapdragon 712 a winner.

Geekbench Scores

In the Geekbench benchmark, Snapdragon 675 is the winner since it has a Single-Core score of 2346 and Multi-Core of 6248. whereas Snapdragon 712 has a Single-Core score of 1910 and Multi-Core of 6060.

Conclusion – Which one is Better?

Overall all three processors are good. But since none of the devices has been launched with Helio G80 Soc it will be hard to determine which will be the winner. But if the Helio G80 comes in budget or mid-range chance are it will do well. But on paper, Snapdragon 675 and 712 performance are mostly similar.
