According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, “Apple might cancel or postpone the mass production plan for the 2024 iPhone SE 4.” In his tweet, he said this is likely due to “the consistently lower than expected shipments of low tier and mid tier iPhones” like the SE 3, 13 Mini, and 14 Plus.

Kuo further stated that the full-screen design of the iPhone SE 4 will “increase its production cost and selling prices,” so Apple might reconsider the product positioning and return on investment for the SE 4. He further pointed out that “reducing unnecessary new product development expenses will also help the company navigate the challenges of the global economic recession in 2023.”

If the report turns out to be true, it is very bad news for people who were expecting a new budget iPhone. Earlier rumors suggested that the new version of the iPhone SE could finally get rid of the Touch ID Home button and adapt the iPhone XR-like design and display.

We hope Apple is just delaying the production of the iPhone SE 4 rather than canceling it altogether, given that several countries are in the midst of a recession, so people may prefer a more affordable iPhone with the latest features rather than top-of-the-line iPhones.
