One UI 8.5 lock screen has a cool feature no one is talking about

As Samsung has opened the One UI 8.5 beta program for the Galaxy S25 lineup, there are plenty of new features worth talking about. One of them is an underrated lock screen customization option that many users seem to have missed.

You may have already seen people sharing the updated adaptive clock, which intelligently adjusts itself around objects in the wallpaper. However, One UI 8.5 introduces another subtle but useful enhancement tied to lock screen wallpapers.

With this update, users can now drag the wallpaper downward on the lock screen. When you do this, the system automatically expands and blurs the image at the top, filling the background and creating extra space to reposition the clock. This makes it easier to use wallpapers where the main subject sits too high on the screen.

A YouTube channel called AppX shared a detailed video explaining this feature. As shown in the screenshot, the bird in the wallpaper occupies most of the visible space on the lock screen. In One UI 8 on the left, the wallpaper cannot be adjusted beyond its original size. In contrast, One UI 8.5 on the right allows the system to dynamically fill the background based on the image’s colors when you pull the wallpaper down.

This is easily one of the most underrated features Samsung has added in One UI 8.5. If you have already installed the One UI 8.5 beta on your Galaxy S25 series device and previously avoided using certain wallpapers due to One UI 8.0 limitations, now is the perfect time to try them again.

The One UI 8.5 beta is currently available for the Galaxy S25 lineup, excluding the S25 Edge and S25 FE, in select markets such as the US, the UK, India, Korea, Poland, and Germany. As more devices join the beta program, we will keep you updated. Stay tuned.
