Samsung has been working on its Android-powered XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan, in partnership with Google. The launch date, however, has always been a mystery due to frequent changes. Now, it looks like we finally have a clearer picture.
According to a report from ETNews, citing industry sources, Samsung plans to officially unveil its first extended reality (XR) headset on October 21 (October 22 in Korea) through an online event.
The report further revealed that Samsung initially intended to introduce the headset on September 29, with sales beginning the following month. However, the launch was pushed back due to internal marketing strategy adjustments and additional quality checks. Hopefully, this time the Korean giant won’t delay it again.
Samsung has planned to ship 100,000 units initially to gauge market response, and depending on demand, shipments could later be scaled up or down.
When it comes to pricing, Samsung is positioning the Moohan headset between the Apple Vision Pro ($3,499) and the Meta Quest 3 ($499), making it a more accessible option for users who want a near-Vision Pro experience without the premium cost. Reports suggest the headset could be priced around 2 million KRW (~$1,441 USD).
What about the tri-fold?
Samsung’s much-anticipated triple-foldable phone, tentatively named the Galaxy G Fold, has also been making headlines this year. Earlier reports suggested it would launch alongside the XR headset. However, new information from Korean media indicates it may instead arrive toward the end of October or in November.
Following the significant design leap seen with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, expectations are sky-high. It will be exciting to see how Samsung’s tri-fold compares to Huawei’s already-released Mate XT.
